How to edit floor types

Matic automatically detects carpet and hard floor as it maps your home. If anything looks off, you can correct it manually using the edit Floor Types option.

How to edit floor types?

  1. Open the Matic app and go to the Edit Map tab
  2. Tap Edit, then select Edit Floor Types
  3. Review your map — shaded areas represent carpet, unshaded areas represent hard floor
  4. To make a change, tap the pencil icon in the top right corner
  5. Draw over the area you want to update, then tap Label as Carpet or Label as Hard Floor

To ensure Matic mops only hard floors and does not miss any areas, make sure the floor types on your map are labeled correctly.

Understanding the floor type map

The floor type map uses shading and color to show different surface types:

  • Shaded (gray lines) — carpet
  • Unshaded — hard floor

Good to know

Manual labels override Matic's automatic detection

If you manually label an area, that label will stick, even if Matic would otherwise detect a different floor type later. This is useful for areas where Matic's detection is inconsistent, but it also means you'll need to update labels manually if the floor actually changes.

Movable rugs need to be relabeled when removed

If you manually labeled an area as carpet for a movable rug, Matic will continue treating that area as carpet even after the rug is gone. Matic only updates floor detection automatically for areas it identifies on its own, not for areas you've labeled manually. If you remove a rug you had previously labeled, go back to Edit Floor Types and relabel that area as hard floor.
