Matic Doesn't Mop Hardfloor Areas or Attempts to Mop Carpets

If you notice that Matic skips mopping certain areas of the hardfloor or tries to mop carpets, that is typically due to floor-type (semantics) misdetection. You can check and correct this in the app.

Matic automatically and dynamically distinguishes between carpet and hard floors using its visual intelligence, so it’s designed to avoid mopping carpeted areas. It also continuously refreshes its map as it cleans, which means if you add, remove, or move rugs, Matic should adapt its cleaning plan accordingly.

If you notice that Matic skips mopping some hard floors or attempts to mop carpets, it’s possible that it misidentified a floor type:

  • Tap the Layers icon in the top-right of the Home screen to review the semantics (floor-type) map and confirm carpet vs. hard floors were identified correctly.
  • If anything looks off, you can adjust it by going to Edit Map > Edit Floor Types.

A few notes on floor type detection:

  • Matic’s floor-type recognition works best in good lighting, which is why we recommend turning on the lights when it creates your home map for the first time.
  • If you notice any floor type misdetection, we’d appreciate it if you could send us a bot recording of that area using the record button on the Home screen. Please, submit a support ticket along with it. This helps us train Matic to better recognize the specific floor type it had trouble with.
