How to prepare your Matic for storage
If you are going away and not planning to use Matic for a prolonged period of time, follow this guide to prepare your robot for storage.
Before you store Matic
- Run a short mop cycle
Before storing, run a short mopping session over about 100 square feet of clean floor. This helps flush and purge the internal water tubes before they sit idle.
- Empty the water tank
Remove the water tank and empty it completely. Leaving water sitting for weeks or months can cause mineral buildup, mold, and odor inside the tank and the wringer system.
- Clean and dry the mop roll and wringer
Rinse the mop roll and wringer thoroughly and let them air dry completely. Remove any hair or debris from the wringer, then store them separately to prevent moisture-related issues.
- Clean the brush roll
Remove any hair and debris from the brush roll and the sweeper driver so nothing is left compressed against the bristles during storage.
- Replace or remove the HEPA bag
A partially used bag left sealed during storage can develop odor over time. Either replace it with a fresh bag before storing, or remove it entirely until you're ready to use Matic again.
- Put Matic into shipment mode
In the app, go to Settings → Prepare for Shipment → Prepare for Repair Shipment. This puts Matic into a safe state for deep storage.
Battery and power during storage
For better battery health during a long period of inactivity:
- Discharge the battery to around 40–50% before storing
- Power Matic off completely using the power button or the app
- Unplug the dock — if the dock stays plugged in, Matic will continue to trickle charge even when it appears off
While Matic is powered off it won't receive software updates. That's completely fine — once you power it back on it will download and apply any pending updates before it's ready to clean.
When you come back
- Plug the dock back in and place Matic on it — let it charge fully before its first clean
- Refill the water tank and reinsert the mop roll and HEPA bag
- Run a short test clean to make sure everything is working normally
