How does Matic clean?

Learn how Matic organizes cleaning into structured rounds and why it may clean different areas in a specific order.

Matic cleans your home in a series of predefined cleaning rounds. Each round is based on a specific combination of cleaning mode (vacuum or mop), floor type (carpet or hard floor), and cleaning behavior.

To keep cleaning consistent and thorough, Matic cleans rooms in three main steps:

  • Interiors first

  • Edges second

  • Toekicks (spaces like those under kitchen cabinets) third

Within each step, Matic may run multiple rounds depending on the floor types it detects.

For example, if a room is mostly hard floor but includes two carpeted areas, Matic might clean in the following order, depending on where it starts:

  • Interior of the first carpet

  • Interior of the second carpet

  • Edges of the second carpet

  • Edges of the first carpet

  • Toekicks near the first carpet

  • Toekicks near the second carpet

Once Matic starts a cleaning round, it completes that round before moving on to the next one. This means it does not dynamically switch between rounds mid-clean.

After all vacuuming rounds in a room are complete, Matic will then begin mopping that room. During mopping, Matic cleans interior areas and edges. It does not currently perform toekick cleaning while mopping.

We are actively working on improving the balance between cleaning speed and thoroughness, while keeping Matic’s cleaning reliable and consistent.
