Currently Matic needs approximately 9 inches of clearance in order to fully go underneath furniture. However, Matic's cleaning head is only 3 inches tall which is capable of cleaning under toekicks (spaces under kitchen cabinets) or underneath furniture with 4 inches of clearance, cleaning any visible debris (up to 4 inches of depth).
Why was Matic designed this way?
When designing Matic, we found that many customers prioritized greater intelligence and cleaning efficacy over navigating lesser-trafficked areas, like under couches and other furniture. Hence, to achieve this, we positioned Matic’s cameras higher up to provide a more human-like vantage point, rather than the lower perspective of disc-shaped robots. This allows Matic to build more accurate 3D maps of your home and recognize obstacles more effectively.
